Gary Crane

Gary Crane
Deputy Chief Financial Officer

Gary Crane is the Deputy Chief Financial Officer in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).

Mr. Crane joined the OCC in April of 2004. In his role, Mr. Crane oversees an annual operating budget of approximately $775.0 million. In addition to his financial duties, Mr. Crane is responsible for all procurement, and agency records management functions.

Prior to joining the OCC, Mr. Crane served most recently as the Portfolio Manager at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), where he implemented that agency’s capital planning and investment control process. Prior to serving in that position, he was the Director of the Business Solutions Division for DFAS after returning to government service in 2000.

In 1996, Mr. Crane joined Camco Financial Corporation, first as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of its First Federal subsidiary and then as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for Camco Financial Corporation. In that position, he was the principal finance and accounting officer for five banks, two mortgage corporations, and a title agency. Prior to CAMCO, Mr. Crane established a management consulting practice in Washington, D.C., specializing in financial regulatory compliance, general ledger systems, and accounting work in 1989.

Mr. Crane joined the federal government in 1987 as a staff accountant for the Office of Regulatory Activities, an office of the Federal Home Loan Bank System in Washington, D.C. He was promoted to Accounting and Budget Officer in 1988.

Mr. Crane began his career as a staff auditor with Ernst & Young, where he gained accounting and auditing experience with financial institutions, government agencies, manufacturing, oil and gas, and health care entities.

Mr. Crane received a bachelor of business administration from the University of Michigan. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Ohio and Florida and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Ohio Society of CPAs. He resides in Northern Virginia with his wife Patricia, and his two children, Benjamin and Rachel.
