WASHINGTON — The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) today announced that Charles Taylor, Deputy Comptroller for Regulatory Policy, has been selected by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (Basel Committee) to chair its Standards Implementation Group (SIG). For this role, Mr. Taylor will assume a prominent leadership role within the Basel Committee.
“I’m very pleased that Charles can apply his more than thirty years of experience in the financial services industry to further improve the quality of banking supervision at the international level,” said Comptroller of the Currency Thomas J. Curry. “Charles brings strong leadership and expertise to his new role and is well suited to chair the Basel Committee’s Standards Implementation Group.”
Under Mr. Taylor’s leadership, the SIG will continue to further the Basel Committee’s mandate to enhance the understanding of key supervisory issues and improve the quality of banking supervision worldwide. The SIG is tasked with promoting greater effectiveness and consistency in the implementation of Basel Committee guidance and standards, including its capital standards framework. The SIG has seven sub-groups that address the calculation of risk weights for the banking and trading books, operational risks, Pillar II issues, supervisory colleges, SIB supervision and the overall implementation of the Basel standards.
