Ekaterina (Katya) Stepanova is a Financial Economist in the Compliance Risk Analysis Division within Economics at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

Before joining the OCC in 2012, Dr. Stepanova worked for six years as a financial economist at Fannie Mae on topics related to credit risk modeling. She earned her Ph.D. and master’s degree in economics from the University of Washington, Seattle in 2006 and her bachelor's degree in economics from the Novosibirsk State University in Russia. Her current research interests include studying the dynamics of student lending in relationship with other types of consumer debt.
