This publication is part of:

Collection: Comptroller's Handbook

Series: Consumer Compliance

Overview

This booklet addresses compliance with Regulation F, 12 CFR 1006, which implements the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The act is intended to eliminate abusive debt collection practices. The act applies only to the collection of debt incurred by a consumer primarily for personal, family, or household purposes. The act also applies to third party-collection entities (those not collecting their own debts).

Applicability

The interagency examination procedures apply to the OCC's supervision of national banks and federal savings associations.

References to national banks in this booklet also generally apply to federal branches and agencies of foreign banking organizations. Refer to 12 USC 3102(b) and the "Federal Branches and Agencies Supervision" booklet of the Comptroller's Handbook for more information.
