OCC Names Bryan Hubbard Deputy Comptroller for Public Affairs

WASHINGTON — Comptroller of the Currency Thomas J. Curry announced today the selection of Bryan Hubbard as Deputy Comptroller for Public Affairs. Mr. Hubbard succeeds Robert M. Garsson, who is retiring on May 31.

Mr. Hubbard currently serves as Director for Public Affairs Operations, with responsibility for Press Relations, Internal Communications, and Web and Electronic Publishing units. In his new role, he will also have responsibility for the agency’s graphic design and writer-editor groups, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) compliance, the OCC’s history program, speechwriting, and outreach to the federal banking industry, Congress, and minority and civil rights organizations. He will report to Paul Nash, Senior Deputy Comptroller and Chief of Staff.

“Bryan has played a leadership role in OCC Public Affairs for some time and brings a wealth of experience, a broad skill set, and seasoned judgment to his new position,” Comptroller of the Currency Thomas J. Curry said. “In my time at the OCC, I’ve relied heavily on Bryan’s expertise and advice, and I’m very pleased he accepted this new challenge.”

Prior to joining the OCC, he was deputy director for Corporate Communication at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service, where his responsibilities included serving as spokesman for the agency and coordinating internal communication, congressional affairs, and FOIA activity. From 2000 to 2001, he served as executive producer at Military Advantage, and from 1991 to 2000 he was a public affairs officer for the U.S. Air Force.

He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1991 and later earned a Master of Arts degree in Communication from Arizona State University. He completed the Senior Executive Fellow program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School in 2008.
